About Us

This web site was launched on 1 January 1999 after six months of planning and preparation. It started as the home of the Internet Family History Association of Australia (IFHAA) and incorporates a significant amount of material submitted by members. The aim of the IFHAA site is to make freely available material and resources for people with an interest in Australian family history.

The site became part of HistoryAustralia in 2003. The aim of HistoryAustralia is to broaden the scope of the site by including Australian historical material outside of the general material sought by family historians. A new home server was found in 2006 with the aim of permitting a greater range of resources and tools which will gradually be phased into the site.

Both sites were devised and created by Scott Brown from Ozgenie Research. Scott has been a family history researcher since 1982 and has gained an Advanced Diploma in Local, Family and Australian History through the University of New England. Between 2003 and 2005 Scott was working at Public Record Office Victoria and currently contracts as a Records and Inforrmation Management Specialist.

He regularly gives talks to Melbourne Family History Societies and other interested groups on matters ranging from convict history and research through to archival procedures and material conservation and preservation practices. His main research interests are centred around convict era Australia with his major research project being the compilation of a genealogical and biographical database of the convict transportees sent to Australia. This database currently has over 120,000 convicts listed.
